2005 — Week 38
The weather was mainly nice, we only had one day with a
little bit of rain. 3 days were very calm and the other days were windy
due to a big low pressure system at the coast of Alaska.
Our fly-out trips to our Salmon river at the Pacific Ocean were very successful. One group had a memorable day down there as they caught lots of Silver Salmon on dry flies - those dry flies outfished any other wet flies or Lures on that day! We have seen Silvers taking flies just below the surface but were not really sure if a surface fly could work as well. So we tied a few patterns and we couldn't believe how excellent they worked. What an experience when you can see the wake of the fish following the fly and then watch the take on the surface.
Our nearby Salmon river in Alaska got a lot of rain and unfortunately we couldn't do trips for the Sockeye Salmon because of high water levels. The hunting for Grouse and Ptarmigan was very good this week. Fishing for Pike remained excellent and our newly discovered Lake produced a lot of fish. One guest even caught a big Laketrout of 87cm when fishing for Pike in this Lake. The river fishing was world-class and our guests caught plenty of Laketrout, Grayling and Rainbow Trout. One of our regular customers had a great day on one of our rivers as he landed a big Laketrout of 85cm on the fly. Overall we had an exciting week with a lot of fun.
