2007 — Week 30
The Sockeye Salmon have finally entered our rivers! We don’t really know why they are running almost one month later than usual. One possible explanation could be the real high water levels during the past weeks due to snowmelt and rain. Our nearby Salmon river in Alaska is in very good shape now, it is running high but clear. All our trips were successful and every guest caught his limit of beautiful Sockeye Salmon. Most of the fish were big males and the average weight was much higher than usual. Our guests will be very happy to bring home this first class smoked Salmon. Although the King run is almost over we still had very good fishing. But from now on we will leave the Kings alone so they will not be disturbed while spawning. Like last week the Grayling fishing was world class with many fish up to 47cm. Again, the dry flies seemed to do the trick. Fishing for Laketrout was still very productive with fish up to 96cm. As we were mainly fishing for Salmon, we did not do many trips for the Pike. The week began with beautiful sunny weather but with higher winds from the south. From the middle of the week onwards we had mainly cloudy skies and much calmer conditions. On the last day we experienced solid rain but again no wind at all.Statistics
