2008— Week 29
Although the weather was tough we had a very good fishing week. Ruud van Deursen caught two trophy Pike of 101 cm and 103 cm with the fly on the same day. Congratulations Ruud and welcome to our Trophy Club! We did a couple more trips fishing for Inconnu with good success. Several big fish up to 35 lbs were landed and our guests were stunned by the jumps of these rare fish do. They sure put up a hell of a fight! Lake Trout fishing was very good with fish up to 91 cm. Quite a few were caught on flies which is a great experience for the avid fly fishermen. The Pike were aggressive and willing to take flies or lures. Beside the two trophies many nice fish in the range of 75 cm to 95 cm were caught. Fishing for Grayling and Rainbow Trout was also excellent although we did not catch any real big ones during this week. King Salmon fishing was spotty, on some days our guests hooked up to 14 fish, on other days we had only a few bites. One of our guests lost a real monster, the fish was so strong that it broke the fishing rod! The King run is very poor this year, in fact Fisheries and Oceans Canada closed the Salmon fishing in our local Rivers on the last day of the week. Heavy rain at the coast of Alaska made Sockeye Salmon fishing impossible, the River was flooded. People are catching Sockeyes in the fish wheels below our River but they are not entering it due to high water. Let’s hope things will settle and we can send guests down there soon. The week started with nice weather and calm winds. From the third day to the end of the week several low pressure systems moved in and we had mostly cloudy skies and very windy conditions. It was a tough week to fish but our guests were rewarded with many nice fish caught.
