2008— Week 30

The weather hasn’t improved much during this week but the fishing remained good. A fair number of Lake Trout up to 95 cm were caught on flies. We did not do a lot of trolling for them as most of our guests fly fish. Pike fishing was generally good with fish close to the trophy mark. Fishing for Grayling and Rainbow Trout was excellent, but no really big ones were caught. One evening a Grizzly Bear walked by right in front of our Lodge and stood up. On another morning we heard our dog barking. When we went to have a look we discovered a huge Lynx right up in the trees. He jumped from tree to tree, trying to escape from the dog. Unfortunately he was gone when we had our cameras ready. But it was a great experience for our guests anyway. We finally found the time to build a solid bridge with logs over a bad swamp hole. This will make this trip a lot easier and will be so much better for the ATV’s. The weather was giving us a hard time, we had rain almost every day and mostly windy conditions. We can’t remember having that much rain during one week. At the coast of Alaska they even got more rain than here and every river is flooded. Sockeye Salmon fishing was impossible and it will take some time for things to settle. Fortunately our local rivers were not affected by the rain and fishing stayed good overall. Our big advantage here at Dalton Trail Lodge is for sure the large variety of fishing. Even in tough conditions we are always able to catch fish.
