2008— Week 34
Excellent fishing continued at Dalton Trail Lodge and we are pleased to welcome two new members to our Trophy Club: Ingolf Winter caught a Grayling of 48.5 cm and Doug Ross a Grayling of 48 cm. Congratulations to both of them and well done! The Grayling fishing was really world class with many big fish in the range of 40 cm to 46 cm. The “new” stretch of water we discovered about two weeks ago was again outstanding. This beautiful stream is absolutely packed with Grayling and most of them are big. We were struggling to get some fish for a shore lunch as so many of them were in the slot limit – a nice problem to have though. Fishing for Lake Trout was overall good with fish up to 90 cm. Most of them were caught on flies or spin casting as trolling did not seem to be all too productive. We did not do a lot of Pike fishing this week but the trips we did were very successful with fish up to 98 cm - just missing the trophy mark by a tiny little bit. Like last week we did a couple of fly out trips by floatplane to very remote Lakes. Fishing these barely untouched waters was again out of this world. One day we did an exploration trip by helicopter to fish for Arctic Char. There were quite a few around but not really eager to bite. Our nearby Salmon River in Alaska is still flooded so we couldn’t send anybody down there. We have some reports that the first Silver Salmon are entering the Rivers at the coast of Alaska. We will wait until there is a good number of fish around before we start to do fly out trips. The weather was decent with rather mild temperatures for this time of the year. We experienced mainly cloudy skies and calm winds.
