2008— Week 35
We are very pleased to announce a new Grand Slam Champion: Ingolf Winter caught 3 trophies of 3 different fish species during his stay. He caught a Lake Trout of 101 cm, a Grayling of 48.5 cm and a Pike of 105 cm. He is only the second guest in the history of Dalton Trail Lodge who accomplished this goal. Congratulations to him and well done! Grayling fishing was again outstanding with nice fish up to 47 cm, just a tiny bit shy of a trophy. There were some good hatches of Mayflies and sometimes it was tough to match the hatch with so much natural food on the surface. Fishing for Rainbow Trout was excellent too with a lot of big fish over 50 cm. These hard fighting fish will for sure test your skills! Pike fishing was patchy, although we had some really good days. Some nice sized ones up to 97 cm were caught. More and more Lake Trout are now moving into our Rivers and our guests are starting to catch good numbers. Usually these Lake Trout are not that big, around 50-60 cm but so much fun to catch on light tackle. Our nearby Salmon River in Alaska is still carrying a lot of water and therefore is unfishable. Silver Salmon are now moving into the River at the coast of Alaska and we will do the first fly out trip at the beginning of next week. Unfortunately we had terrible weather this week with rain almost every day. This is really unusual for us as we rather have a dry climate here in the Yukon. But the clients who were tough enough to go out fishing were rewarded with excellent catches.
