2008— Week 38
Another excellent fishing week comes to an end with a proud new member to our Trophy Club: Heinz Sommer caught a big Pike of 101 cm in a remote Lake. Congratulations Heinz and welcome to the Club! This nice Pike came from the same location as the trophies from two weeks ago. There were many more big ones up to 96 cm caught, just missing the trophy mark by a tiny little bit. Pike fishing on other lakes was good too with fish up to 95 cm. Lake Trout fishing in the rivers was world class. All the pools are full of Lake Trout, Grayling, Whitefish and Rainbow Trout. Some of our guests managed to fulfil a “grand slam” as they caught all of the four species in one day. The Lake Trout fishing on the lakes was spotty, the main reason for this was the windy conditions. Many times we have played smaller fish and then real monster Trout were following the smaller fish right to the boat. Unfortunately we could not catch these trophies, but we know where they are and hopefully will get them next week. Grayling fishing was again great and many were caught on mainly smaller dry flies. Our nearby Salmon River in Alaska is running clear and low but unfortunately there were not many fish around. It seems that the Sockeye run is coming to an end and the Silver Salmon are not there yet. We did a few fly-out trips to the coast of Alaska. Fishing was a hit and miss, we had days with good success and other days with hardly any fish at all. The reason for the slower fishing were the big storms with high winds and heavy rain. There was a lot of water and the big tides didn’t help much either. We are sure when things settle down there will be great Silver Salmon fishing. Generally the weather was not too great, we experienced mainly cloudy skies with windy conditions.
