2009— Week 28
Our guests enjoyed a fantastic week with excellent fishing and beautiful weather. We are happy too to welcome two new members to our Trophy Club: Hampi Keller caught a Lake Trout of 102 cm and Shirley Eckardt a Pike of 104 cm. Congratulations to both of you and well done! Actually Hampi set up a new Lodge record in regards of the quickest fish ever been caught. The second he put his line out and started to his Trophy hit the lure – now that’s called efficient fishing! Generally Lake Trout fishing was excellent on every lake we fished. On some lakes trolling worked well and on other lakes casting with flies or lures seemed to be more successful. There were many nice Lakers up to 95 cm being caught. The Pike fishing was again awesome and our guests had sore arms from playing so many big fish. Many Grayling up to 45 cm were caught on flies, especially dry flies worked very well. Fishing for Rainbow Trout was slower than usual. It seemed that the hot weather especially affected the bigger fish as they were not really active. Until the last days of the week the Sockeye Salmon fishing in our nearby river in Alaska was great and all our guests caught their limit of beautiful fresh Sockeyes. But the hot temperatures and therefore the snow and ice melt made all the glacial rivers rise and our Salmon river was flooded. The weather was great during the whole week. Pure sunshine and hardly any wind at all was a great treat. The downside of the hot and dry weather is that there are 25 active fires right now with a total of 38’000 hectares burned in the whole Yukon. Most of the fires are around Dawson so quite a distance away from us but on some days we could see and even smell the smoke. Everything is under control, we are safe and our guests are enjoying the great fishing and weather.
