2009— Week 33
Our guests experienced another great fishing week with no less than 13 Trophy Pike being caught. We are very pleased to welcome the following fishermen to our Trophy Club: Roberto Dalla Valle (111 cm), Americo Sassi (110 cm), Daniele Gianella (110 cm), Joe Mulvaney (102 cm), Sandro Mediani (101 cm, 2 x 102 cm, 103 cm, 105 cm, 106 cm, 108 cm, 112 cm, 116 cm). Congratulations to all of you and well done! Sandro certainly had a trip of a lifetime when he caught a total of 9 Trophy Pike in just two days. He also caught the biggest Pike of the season so far of 116 cm. Lake Trout fishing was spotty, we did not catch as many as the previous weeks. It seems that the weather change has turned the bite off a bit. On the other hand fishing for Grayling was very good with nice fish up to 47 cm being caught. Our guests also had excellent fishing for Rainbow Trout on dry flies and streamers. Although our Rainbows don’t grow that big they put up a great fight and will certainly test your skills. A fish of 50 cm can take all your fly line out in no time! We still have bad news from our nearby Sockeye Salmon river in Alaska. The high water of the glacial river has cut an arm into the upper part of the clear river where we usually fish. Therefore the Salmon are not staying in the pools and will move very fast up the river. Unless the water of the glacial river drops a lot we will not be able to fish for Sockeyes in the next couple of days. We did one fly out trip by floatplane to a very remote Lake where we fished for Sockeye Salmon with great success. Temperatures have cooled down quite a bit and with mainly windy conditions it was rather a tough week. But who cares when the fishing is that great! We experienced mostly cloudy skies and two days with rain. The rain was very good for the forests and helped to control the fires.
