2010— Week 26
World class fishing continued here at Dalton Trail Lodge with more Trophy Fish being caught. If this continues we will soon be running out of hats… Andre Suter caught a Trophy Lake Trout of 102 cm, Didier Feuvrier a Pike of 109 cm and Kevin Grunwald a Pike of 109 cm as well as a Trophy Lake Trout of 101cm. Congratulations to these successful fishermen and welcome to the Trophy Club! Andreas Arendt who had the chance to become Grand Slam Champion missed the Trophy Grayling by only 5 mm. He caught two Grayling of exactly 47.5 cm on his last day of his trip. This is called back luck, but on the other hand he can be very pleased with his two Lake Trout and Pike Trophies. Fishing for Lake Trout was excellent on every Lake and River that we went. This week most of them were caught while trolling as we didn’t have many fly fishermen staying with us. The Pike were also very active, many were caught on surface lures. What a blast when they almost shoot out of the water to attack the lure! Grayling fishing was very good and with water levels continue to drop it will become even better. Fishing for Rainbow Trout proved to be excellent with some really nice fish up to 55 cm caught. They don’t grow that big in our waters so a fish of about 55 cm would be considered a Trophy. We are still waiting for the first King Salmon to show up. It is still early but we are expecting the first ones to arrive in the next couple of days. The week started with beautiful and calm weather. On Tuesday a big front moved over the Yukon and we had two days of heavy rain. There was even a rainfall warning issued for our area. It wasn’t nice for our guests to get out in these miserable conditions but the fishing was excellent and we definitely needed the rain. The rest of the week was cloudy with stronger winds from the south.
